Janet Pettegrew

Janet Ruth Pettegrew, 66, Albuquerque, N.M., passed away Aug. 29, 2015.

Janet was born in Trenton, Mo., on Jan. 28, 1949, to Ray and Ruth (King) Pettegrew, who preceded her in death. She is survived by brothers Thomas (Barbara) Pettegrew, Homosassa, Fla., and Robert (Mary) Pettegrew; aunt, Arlene (Jack) Holtzclaw, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; uncle, Edward King, Cainsville, Mo.; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1967 and the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1971 with a B.S. degree in wildlife conservation. She later studied microbiology and became a certified mycologist. She first worked as a laboratory technician at North Kansas City Hospital, and moved to Albuquerque in 1978. She worked most of her career in private medical labs, but later worked in the New Mexico State Lab, where she was a line supervisor for TB/Mycology. She retired at the end of January this year. She very much looked forward to enjoying her retirement.

A celebration of life was held in Rio Rancho, N.M. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, 1500 Rosalea, in Excelsior Springs. A time of fellowship will follow at the church. Cremation. Inurnment will be a later date.
