Gregory (Greg) A. Martin lost his yearlong battle with cancer on Nov. 6, 2016 with his daughter Wendy by his side.
Greg was born to William L. Martin and the late Harriet J. Martin on Feb. 20, 1947 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He spent most of his adult life living in Kidder, Missouri, where he served one term as mayor and Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He worked 32 years as an agent and manager for Reliable Life Insurance, retiring in 2008. Greg enjoyed golfing, being with his family and working with the Slightly Off Broadway Theatre as an actor, director and producer.
Greg is survived by his son Gregory A. Martin Jr., daughter-in-law Barbara L. Martin and granddaughter Laura Martin all of Seattle, Washington; his daughter Wendy L. Assel, who cared for him in her home, son-in-law Gabriel Assel; grandson Jadin Assel, and granddaughter Ashleigh Kindell of Excelsior Springs, Missouri and Gladstone, Missouri; and his daughter Adaleigh D. Martin of Seattle, Washington.
He is also survived by his father, William L. Martin; his brother Terry L. Martin and wife Pat, his brother William (Bill) L. Martin III and his wife Barbara, as well as his fiancé Melanie Adams, who also helped to care for him in her house.
There was a celebration of Greg’s life held on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Slightly Off Broadway Theatre in Excelsior Springs. A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 2-5 p.m. at the Pony Express Stables Museum meeting room in St. Joseph, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to his favorite pastime, the Slightly Off Broadway Theatre, 114 N. Marietta St., Excelsior Springs Mo 64024.
