Betty Blanche Porter

Betty Blanche Porter, 94, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, passed away Nov. 16, 2016 at her home. Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 19 with services following at Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church, Excelsior Springs. Inurnment will at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Kearney, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.

Betty was born June 20, 1922 to William and Juanita Writesman Hart in Prathersville, Missouri. She married Denham Porter on Dec. 17, 1945 they lived on a farm in Kearney. She worked at the VA Hospital in Excelsior Springs and Power and Light, also in Excelsior Springs. Betty retired from the Federal Government working 30 years for the Social Security office in Kansas City, Missouri. Betty was a member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lexington Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, China Painting Club, and several bridge clubs including the Kearney Bridge Club for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Kirk and Nancy Porter; sisters, Ruth Flynn and Pat Lamb; sister-in-law, Susan Porter; nieces and nephews, Jim Chalfant, Janet Delseme, Beth Crowley, Kay Shephard, Lance Lamb, Jim Lamb, Amy Dysart, Paul Ellnsohn, Kate Root, Kelly Geringer, Pat Flynn, Molly Flynn, Marti Flynn and many great nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs.
