Darrell Wylie Russell
May 27, 1972—January 17, 2018

Darrell Wylie Russell, 45, of Lawson, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, at his parent’s home in Fairland, Okla. Darrell was born May 27, 1972, in Afton, Okla., to Tom and Twylla Russell of Fairland, Okla. He married Christy Hayden, July 2, 2005 at Salem Christian Union Church where he is a member.

Darrell graduated Lawson High School in 1990 and acquired his associate degree in culinary arts at the Scottsdale Culinary Arts Institute in 1993.

He started his culinary career as a Sous Chef at Shangri-La Resort in Afton, Okla., then promoted to Head Banquet Chef. He also worked as Executive Chef at Stone Point Super Club, on the movie set of The Nutty Professor, at The Elms Hotel, was owner of The Hillbilly Grill, was Food and Beverage Director at Paradise Playhouse, at Cameron Correctional Center, Chef at Mulligans Eatery and Pub, and made a full circle, returning as Head Banquet Chef at Shangri-La.

Darrell was a kid at heart—he never missed an opportunity to push a swing, bake a cake, throw a ball or dance with his nieces. Darrell was a natural comedian, he’d tell jokes and limericks similar to Dr. Seuss, dressing the part for every birthday party theme and karaoke.

He was an adventure seeker; bungee jumps, rip cords, zip lines, skydiving, river rafting and travel.

He pitched and played centerfield in baseball and was a 3rd Degree Black belt in Karate.

Darrell was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Wylie and Grace Russell; maternal grandparents, Jim and Lorene McCoin; step grandpa, Relmond Mason; 1 great-aunt, Jesse Davis; two aunts, Mary Shesser and Marsha Thomas, as well as 2 uncles, Glenn Russell and John Russell.

He is survived by his wife, parents and sister, Sherry Russell; 2 sons, Dustin and William (Buddy); two nieces, Hunter Teegarden (his favorite), Logan Teegarden (his favorite); 1 great-niece, Aubree Green (the true favorite).

Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27at Lawson Baptist Church, 18603 N. 69 Hwy., Lawson, MO., with service following. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Salem Church or the Lawson Youth Baseball Association.
