Dan Alan Cates

Dan Alan Cates, 79, of Kansas City, Missouri, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2018 at the Garden Valley Healthcare Center and Nursing Home in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dan was born Aug. 30, 1939 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri to Joseph C. and Lula Rachel (Boydston) Cates. He married Delores Gay Taylor Jan. 25, 1958.
Dan was diesel mechanic for over 30 years and retired from Midwest Kenworth in Kansas City. Dan was a huge Missouri Tiger fan.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Delores G. Cates (Taylor); four brothers: Robert Cates, Lloyd Cates, Carl Cates and Kenneth Cates; and three sisters: Josephine Cates, Ruby Lana and Icel Skaggs (Isenhour).
Survivors include one brother, Gene Cates; one daughter and three sons: Doris E. Farage (Cates), Donald W. Cates, Eddie L. Cates and Jody A. Cates-Collins; six grandsons: Chet, Chris, Stephen, Daniel and Nathan Farage and Tyler Cates and several great-grandchildren, all of the Kansas City area.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, with Funeral immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will be Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
